The LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons and Severn Stars battled it out in a thrilling encounter that saw the LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons emerge victorious by 48-46 in front of a raucous Welsh crowd at House of Sport.

The Dragons started the match on the front foot, taking an early lead and holding a two-goal advantage after the first quarter. The Stars, however, fought back with a run of goals that brought the deficit back to just two at the end of the first quarter.

The volume level at House of Sport spurred the Dragons on to keep hold of their lead, and they did just that, holding on to the end despite a late push by the Stars that leveled the scores with just two minutes to go.

However, two turnovers for the Stars saw Sigi Burger and Lefebre Rademan net three goals in a row to equalize, but a crucial interception by the LexisNexis Captain Nia Jones halted their hopes of a last-minute comeback.

Jones was named Player of the Match for her critical interception that sealed the victory for her team in incredible fashion. Dragons’ wing attack Khanyisa Chawane was also a standout player on the court with 28 feeds into the circle, enabling Phillipa Yarranton, Hannah Passmore, Georgia Rowe, and Laura Rudland to score.

This match marked the first time that Jill McIntosh’s team played with their full contracted 12 players, with Elle McDonald making her return from injury and showcasing their strength to seal their third win of the season. This win is significant for the LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons as it brings them above their total number of wins from the previous two seasons, and it’s only round six!

Overall, it was a thrilling match that showcased the talent and determination of both teams, with the Dragons ultimately emerging victorious in a closely contested battle.
