admin

In an exciting match last week, the LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons had their first home match of the 2024 Netball Super League (NSL) season in a sold-out House of Sport. Dragons faced Manchester Thunder in Round 2 in the NSL, and it was a special match for the Dragons’ captain, Nia Jones, who made her 100th NSL appearance.

The match started as a close battle, with both teams playing well in the first and second quarters. The LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons led by just one goal at the end of each of these quarters. Khanyisa Chawane, who played her first game at House of Sport for the Dragons, was outstanding with 34 feeds. Goal shooter Hannah Passmore also had an excellent game, netting 45 goals without missing a single shot.

The Dragons led 27-26 at half-time after two incredibly tight quarters. However, in the second half, the Thunder found their new recruit in Elmerè van der Berg, who proved to be a difference-maker under the post. Karen Greig’s side found an extra edge in the second half, which helped them turn the game around and secure a victory.

Despite the Dragons’ best efforts, Thunder stormed away in the last half and won the match away from home with a score of 63-52. The Dragons fought hard until the end, but they suffered their first loss of the season.

Overall, it was a great match with lots of excitement and excellent performances from both teams, and Dragons can take some positives and build on them in their next game.
