Kiwi Jenna Murie arrives in the UK at the weekend to finish the Celtic Dragons line up ahead of their Superleague campaign which starts in early February. Murie, 24, has not played in the UK Superleague before and takes up a defensive position in the squad.
Jenna represented New Zealand North in both their U19 and U21 teams and comes to the Welsh franchise winning premier player of the year for her club Shore Rovers in New Zealand. Murie, who has grown up around netball as both her mother and grandmother played the sport said, ‘I’m really looking forward to taking my place in the Dragons squad. I’m really keen to see how the game has developed in the UK and I hope I can bring some Kiwi flair to the squad.’
Fellow Kiwi, High Performance Coach Melissa Hyndman said ‘when I heard Jenna was available to play I jumped at the chance to get her over here. Our aims this season are simple, Consistency, Competiveness and Confidence. We have been a team that couldn’t be taken lightly for the past two seasons but we lost games because we lacked reliability. Jenna’s experience will only help this.’
The Celtic Dragons first home match is on February 16th at the Sport Wales National Centre. Tickets are available on the website www.cardiffdragons.com
