With both teams coming from losses in their previous rounds, and the league heading into the final matches of the half-way point, it was all to play for.
Rhinos created an early lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter, and they managed to hold on to their four-goal lead heading into the second quarter.
Leeds Rhino’s managed to drag the score out to 16-10 at the beginning of the second quarter, but after their narrow loss to Sirens the previous week Celtic Dragons were determined not to let this game go out of contention. Dragons managed to get three consecutive goals and continued to build on this momentum which narrowed Leeds Rhino’s first quarter lead to one goal with three minutes remaining. In the dying minutes of the second quarter, Rhino’s got their lead back out to the same score-line as the first.
Rhino’s scored three unanswered goals as they built on the momentum they gained at the end of the first half. There were many shifts in momentum in this Round 10 match, and this quarter followed the same trend. Dragons responded and got the deficit back to three goals with one minute remaining. Dragons had the penultimate centre pass of the third quarter, but it was Rhino’s who scored the final goal, bringing the score back to the four-goal scoreline Rhinos gained in the first quarter.
Leeds Rhinos started the final quarter strong as they did throughout the match, and Dragons once again did all they could to break the consistent four-goal barrier, but Rhinos found the confidence to see the game out with a 55-46 win.
