Dragons Determined after Fastnet Finals

Dragons Determined after Fastnet Finals

Friday the 13th reared its ugly head on the luck of the Celtic Dragons at the Cathedral City Fastnet Grand Prix Finals in Surrey Sports Park. The girls were very unlucky, losing out to the Yorkshire Jets in the eliminator match of the tournament with only one point between the two teams in the final score line. The Jets went on to face Northern Thunder in the penultimate match of the Fastnet grand prix and Thunder were crowned Fastnet champions at the end of the tournament.

Positively, the Dragons played the Fastnet tournament with pace and precision. Twelve of the Dragons’ goals came from shots outside the circle, which are worth 3 points in fastnet rules and 4 points when the team have a power play. Chelsea Lewis once again showed her shooting prowess as the crowd were jubilant every time she took the ball near the circle. It was an unfortunate loss, but the Dragons now look forward to the start of their Fiat Netball Superleague Campaign against Team Bath at the Sport Wales National Centre on Friday night.

High Performance coach ‘Melissa Hyndman said ‘I’m proud of the girls, they played fastnet the way it should be played. Now our focus turns to our Superleague Campaign. We’ve shown the other Superleague sides that we shouldn’t be underestimated and my three overseas players arrive this week so I’m looking forward to having a full squad for the campaign.’
