Following Phase One’s 48 all draw between Celtic Dragons and Hertfordshire Mavericks, both sides were determined to get over the line first in this second phase opener, and it was the visiting Dragons who took the opportunity to do so.

Dragons began well, turning over early to forge a lead, and the effective long feed to GS Lottysha Cato was used well in attack, allowing Dragons to take a massive first quarter eight goal lead.

Hertfordshire Coach Karen Atkinson switched up her mid court, introducing Mikaela Austin to Centre and moving Captain Sasha Corbin further into attack on the wing.

Corbin who has just returned from an impressive international series win in Jamaica, impacted well, pressuring the Dragons, but the home side threw away too much possession, and Dragons swept up.

By half time the gap was ten, and going into the final quarter 35 – 47 down, Mavericks had made their task to difficult to upturn a 12 goal deficit in 15 minutes.

Dragons return to Cardiff with three points on the table, ending the round in second place overall.

Next up is an away game to Surrey Storm on Friday 19th April, and Dragons will be looking to capitalise on their momentous confidence whilst remaining ever respectful of the opposition in this year’s league of mixed results.
