This week Celtic Dragons welcomed back Rebekah Robinson and Latanya Wilson from Jamaica as preparations for the 2020 Vitality Netball Superleague step up with the start of the season just six weeks away.
Robinson and Wilson, the Dragons’ two 2020 import players, have already made a big impression in the green dress, helping the team to the semi-finals of the 2019 British Fast 5 All-Stars tournament. It will be an exciting few weeks for Wilson in particular, as Latanya has been selected as part of Jamaica’s Vitality Nations Cup squad.
It will be a busy period of preparation for the team as whole, with Dragons entertaining Knights Men’s Netball 2nd team for a friendly game this weekend as well as a trip to play England U21 in the coming week.
Dragons’ pre-season preparations will culminate in a tri-tournament featuring Team Bath and London Pulse on the weekend of 8/9 February. The franchise will be hosting the matches at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre and information regarding tickets will be made available shortly.
Looking ahead at the franchise’s countdown to the season, head coach Tania Hoffman said: “We’re starting 2020 with a bang and the squad is going to be very busy with a range of training matches and pre-season games.
“Our camp this weekend will see some on/off court sessions, a game against Knights 2, and media commitments. This will be good preparation as we look forward to other pre-season games against England Under 21, Team Bath and London Pulse.
“Things are really starting to take shape now and we are focusing on starting strongly at Arena Birmingham against Storm on 22 February.
“It is wonderful to have Rebekah and Latanya back with us and the squad has given them a great ‘croeso’ back to Wales. It’s particularly exciting to see that Latanya has broken through into the Sunshine Girls squad for the Nations Cup and I’d like to send her my heartfelt congratulations on her achievement.”
