The Celtic Dragons have secured their place in the fourth place playoffs on May 14th. Since the Fiat Netball Superleague split into two tiers in late March, the Dragons have been determined to show they deserved to be in Tier one after missing out on goal average earlier in the season. It has just been announced that the Dragons will play Team Bath away from home in their bid to take the fourth spot and a place in the finals weekend.
Friday night saw the Dragons defeat TeamNorthumbria in what proved to be a closer match than expected. So much so, it wasNorthumbriawho led at the end of the first quarter 14-13. After the interval, the Dragons started to extend their leads with fast mid court play and high feeds into Goal Shooters Cato and Moseley. The match ended with the Dragons slaying their Northern counterparts, 57-43.
The Dragons have one remaining Tier 2 match against Loughborough Lightning on the 10th of May. This game will be shown live on SKY Sports. The team will be using this match as a good warm up ahead of their 4th place playoff clash 4 days later. Co Captain of the Dragons, Suzy Drane said ‘We were pleased with the result on Friday night, although the performance could have been improved. We made a lot of unnecessary errors and we need to erase them from our game prior to the play offs. Next week’s match will be good practice for us as there is no pressure on the game, we can just go out on court and play.’
A win at the play offs would seal the Dragons a place in the Finals weekend; the likes of Northern Thunder and Surrey Storm have already confirmed their place in the weekend. Tickets for the Dragons remaining home match on May 10th are available via cardiffdragons.com
