Celtic Dragons launch 2014
The Celtic Dragons launch their season
THE CELTIC Dragons have launched their 2014 season in style! The event, which took place at TigerTiger Cardiff on Sunday 12th January, attracted media, sponsors and volunteers alike- all of whom were there to support the home team and to grab an exclusive glimpse of the new-look kit.
The Zeo Netball Superleague is the most prestigious netball competition in the Northern Hemisphere, featuring teams and international players from the UK and worldwide.
The Celtic Dragons take on Loughborough Lightening in their first NSL fixture of the season. The Dragons enjoyed their most successful season in the Zeo Netball Superleague in 2013, finishing second in the grand final.
Introduced by their Head Coach, Melissa Hyndman, the players were called individually to the stage, all sporting their new-season kit.
Captain and Centre, Suzy Drane, took to the stage to welcome and thank everyone for their support. She acknowledged the challenges facing her team and explains how the Celtic Dragons intend to prepare for the season ahead:
“We’re taking nothing lightly- we’ve already started training. We had a very good training day yesterday for Wales and we’ve started training together for the Celtic Dragons.
It’s not going to be easy- we have a tough schedule but we are all working hard. We rely on each other and our fans support.”
Cara Lea Moseley (Co-Captain, GA/WA/GS) presented Alun Davies of the University of South Wales (USW) with a signed ball and shirt. She said:
“Thank you to the venue, TigerTiger and of course thank you to our sponsor, the University of South Wales. Having the sponsors support will make a massive difference to the coming season. Finally, a big thank you to the volunteers support and also family and friends.”
Commenting on the recent partnership between the Celtic Dragons and the University of South Wales (USW), Director of Sport, Health and Wellbeing at University South Wales, Alun Davies said:
“We are delighted that the relationship that has been established in recent years with Welsh Netball has now progressed to a formal partnership and we look forward to working closely for the success of both partners.”
Alun Davies continued to highlight the importance and success of the Celtic Dragons, and after officially passing over the partnership agreement for the season, he wished the team luck:
“Sport is an important part of the student experience and this partnership is seen as an excellent way of promoting the excellence of the University of South Wales and the Celtic Dragons.”
“I’d like to wish the Dragon’s and Welsh Netball great success for the coming season, both in the Superleague and also in the Commonwealth Games.”
