Celtic Dragons Announce New Squad Members Ahead of Preseason

admin

Ahead of this afternoon’s pre-season engagement with Manchester Thunder, Celtic Dragons have announced their latest squad members for the 2020 season.

Returning from 2019 will be Lucy Howells and Laura Burton, while joining them will be Eleri Michael, Brittany Coleman and Eleri Michael.

These latest signings come from a variety of backgrounds and have represented a range of international teams and Superleague franchises in their careers. Both Howells and Burton made their Celtic Dragons debuts in 2019, with Howells gaining 4 new senior international caps for Wales in the last year and Burton being named in 2019/20 Scottish Thistles senior long squad.

Meanwhile, Annie O’Rourke, a Cardiff University student, makes her Dragons debut following a successful age-group career at Team Bath. Eleri Michael was one of Wales Under 21’s leading lights at the recent Netball Europe U21 Championships, helping the team to wins against Northern Ireland and Scotland. Selected for England Futures in the 2018/19 season, shooter Brittany Coleman joins the squad having previously played for Loughborough Lightning.

Head coach Tania Hoffman shared her thoughts on the signings, with the season drawing ever closer. She said: “I’m very excited about working with these fantastic athletes as we head into the 2020 season. It is great to see players going into their second season with the franchise as well as some very talented youngsters stepping up from age-group to elite senior netball.

“As we saw last season, the new players in this squad will have some fantastic opportunities to take on some of the country’s best netballers, as part of a squad of 15.”

Welsh defender Lucy Howells also shared her enthusiasm for the season ahead. She said: “I’m really pleased to be back with Dragons for another year. Last year was a big one for me, where I played in several Superleague games for the first time in my career. I feel I’ve developed a lot as a player in that time and I’m really looking forward to the next challenge!”
