Stars’ first centre pass went straight to goal, shot from a far by Georgia Rowe, followed closely by a goal from Dragons’ Amy Clinton. Both teams were going goal for goal until an injury for Bethan Dyke saw the quarter quickly come to a halt. Stars, however, did not let this disrupt their game and a change that brought Chloe Charchrie onto Centre, saw Stars pull away, ending the quarter 14-10.

Quarter two saw no changes, plenty of encouraging high fives, and green cards from the sidelines. With Stars holding onto their lead, the imaginative long passes from captain Nia Jones made an appearance with Rowe securing the shot. With consistent shooting from Clinton and Robinson, Stars defence, consisting of Malysha Kelly and Dee Bolakoro, stepped up their body on body technique. The last 20 seconds saw a turnover for Dragons on Stars’ centre pass, ending the quarter 26-18.

Quarter three saw no changes to both teams. Every player was fighting for the ball when overturned and finding their respective shooters in the circle and converting goals for their sides. With a great fly intercept from Lucy Herdman, Stars saw the opportunity of Georgia Rowe all by herself in the circle to launch the long ball in. With changes coming halfway through the quarter, Dragons saw a new opponent of Jane Taylor at wing attack. Despite Dragons won this quarter 9-7.

With the final 12 minutes being the last opportunity for Dragons to close the gap, Stars’ fighting attitude won them this game. The roar of Paige Reed and Lucy Harris when goals were scored and balls were turned over, proved that this team wanted to win. Textbook play from Carchrie and Taylor on the circle edge allowed Reed to sink a well-deserved swish shot, who went on to win player of the match.

With Bethan Dyke encouraging from the bench, Stars finished the game with cheers and applause for the young player Hannah Howl, making her debut. The final score for this game was 47-35.

Celtic Dragons would like to wish Bethan Dyke all the best for a swift return to court.
